Professor M. D. Pandey Bio-Climatology Laboratory was established under the RKVY funded project entitled “Establishment of environment controlled chamber and calorimetric unit to enhance productivity of livestock in the scenario of climate change in Uttar Pradesh”. The laboratory was inaugurated by Honorable Governor of Uttar Pradesh on 28th august 2019. The main aim of this laboratory is to study the adaptability of different breeds of livestock in different climatic conditions and to recommend the breed of choice for a particular agro-climatic zone. The laboratory also emphasizes on the quantification of gas emission (methane, carbondioxide and oxygen) from different livestock and to recommend measures to decrease methane emission. The laboratory is equipped with a state of art analytical and molecular laboratory equipped to carry out blood biochemistry, genomic and proteomic analysis. The laboratory has a climate chamber for six adult cattle/buffalo in which temperature, humidity and carbondioxide concentration can be controlled. Three calorimetric units have been installed both for large as well as small animals. An automatic weather station has also been installed to provide weather data for research purposes. For the measurement of gases exhaled from the animals, a continuous gas analysis monitoring system has also been installed. An infra-red camera has also been procured which helps in monitoring and measuring the body surface temperature of animals.
